INS Tushil: A Technological Marvel
INS Tushil is an upgraded Krivak III class frigate, part of Project 1135.6. It is designed for blue-water operations and is equipped with advanced weaponry, including BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and vertically-launched Shtil Surface-to-Air Missiles. The ship’s capabilities extend across air, surface, underwater, and electromagnetic warfare, making it a formidable asset for the Indian Navy.
The ship’s keel was laid in July 2013, and it was launched in October 2021. After extensive trials, including firing tests of its Russian weapon systems, INS Tushil is set to arrive in India in a near-combat-ready condition. The ship is powered by an advanced gas turbine propulsion plant, allowing it to achieve speeds exceeding 30 knots. Its high degree of automation and stealth features enhance its combat capability and survivability.
Captain Peter Varghese, a gunnery and missile specialist, commands the ship. The commissioning ceremony included a joint Guard of Honour and the symbolic acceptance of a ceremonial ship’s baton, marking the formal induction of INS Tushil into the Indian Navy.
