Innovative Handheld Devices: Top Finalists Revealed

Mumbai, April 9, 2025 – The Indian Digital Gaming Society (IDGS) has unveiled the top 10 finalists of the Innovate2Educate: Handheld Device Design challenge. This initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is part of the upcoming World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025. The competition aims to inspire young innovators to create handheld devices that merge technology, education, and gaming, ultimately transforming learning experiences.

Driving Innovation in Education

The Innovate2Educate challenge was launched as a key component of the WAVES 2025 Create in India Challenge. It invited students, designers, startups, and tech enthusiasts from around the globe to conceptualize next-generation portable devices that combine entertainment with educational value for various user demographics. The initiative seeks to harness the creativity of young minds to develop solutions that address pressing educational needs through gamification and interactive content.

Out of 1,856 registrations, the top 10 finalists were selected following a thorough evaluation by a jury of industry experts, including technologists, educators, and designers. Notable jury members include Indrajit Ghosh, Co-Founder of Eruditio; Rajeev Nagar, Country Manager for Huion in India and SAARC; and Jeffrey Cray, Co-Founder and Product Head of Squid Academy. Their expertise ensured a rigorous selection process, highlighting the innovative potential of the participants.

The ten finalists represent a diverse range of ideas and geographical locations, showcasing the breadth of creativity in the field. The finalists are:

    1. VIDYARTHI – Smart Learning Tablet for Kids: An Interactive and Adaptive Educational Companion (Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh)
    1. TECH TITANS – Smart Handwriting Learning Device with Interactive Writing Assistance (Tamil Nadu)
    1. PROTOMINDS – EduSpark (Delhi, Kerala, UP, Bihar)
    1. APEX ACHIEVERS – BODMAS Quest: Gamified Math Learning For Smarter Education (Tamil Nadu)
    1. SCIENCEVERSE – The Imperative of Interactive Educational Handheld Devices for Children (Indonesia)
    1. V20 – VFit – Interactive Learning Through Play (Tamil Nadu)
    1. WARRIORS – Maha-shastra (Delhi)
    1. KIDDYMAITRI – A Handheld Mathematical Gaming Console (Mumbai, Odisha, Karnataka)

 

    1. E-GROOTS – Micro Controller Mastery Kit (Tamil Nadu)

 

These innovative projects reflect a commitment to enhancing educational experiences through technology. Rajan Navani, President of the IDGS, emphasized the significance of the challenge in showcasing India’s creative and technological capabilities in addressing real educational needs.

Looking Ahead to WAVES 2025

Ashutosh Mohle, the nodal officer from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for the Innovate2Educate challenge, highlighted the broader implications of the competition. He stated that the WAVES Handheld Videogame Design Challenge is not solely focused on gaming; it aims to foster a new wave of innovation within India’s hardware ecosystem. By utilizing microcontrollers and aligning with the India Semiconductor Mission, the initiative encourages young innovators to dream, design, and build at the intersection of creativity and technology.

The top 10 teams will present their groundbreaking ideas during a special showcase at WAVES 2025 in Mumbai. The winners will be honored at a grand finale event hosted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, marking a significant milestone in the journey of these young innovators.
