India’s Semiconductor Sector Secures $1.4 Billion in Funding Across 281 Companies

India’s semiconductor sector has secured $1.4 billion in cumulative equity funding across 281 companies, with nearly half of this amount raised since 2025. Recent data from Tracxn, cited by PTI, indicates that the sector has raised $701 million since the start of 2025, including $228 million in 2026 alone. The growth comes as India prepares to host the fifth edition of SEMICON India from September 17-19 at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka, New Delhi, which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tessolve leads cumulative funding
Tessolve Semiconductor has emerged as the leader in cumulative funding within the sector, attracting $213 million. Following closely are ILJIN Electronics with $198 million and VVDN with $129 million. The Electronic Manufacturing Services model has been the most successful since 2025, raising $313 million. Embedded Hardware follows with $51.9 million, all raised in the past year. Other notable business models include Power Management Integrated Circuits and Fabless Semiconductor Manufacturers. Overall, sector funding increased from $49 million in 2021 to $473 million in 2025, reflecting a compound annual growth rate of over 36%.
Bengaluru dominates semiconductor funding
Bengaluru remains the largest hub for semiconductor companies in India, hosting 626 of the total 3,557 companies, which is approximately 18% of the sector. The city has also accounted for 40.1% of all equity funding raised so far. Noida ranks second with a 16.4% share of funding, followed by Gurugram at 10.7%, Kochi at 8.8%, and Hyderabad at 6.2%.
Acquisitions remain key exit route
Acquisitions have become the primary exit strategy for Indian semiconductor firms, with 62 acquisitions recorded compared to 42 IPOs. Companies typically reach acquisition status an average of 11.8 years after their first funding round, while those that go public take about 16.5 years. The largest exit recorded was eInfochips’ acquisition for $282 million, followed by Narayan Powertech at $262 million and SmartPlay Technologies at $180 million. Recent listings include Tempsens Instruments, which went public in August 2026 with a market capitalization of $263 million, and Merritronix, which listed in June 2026.
