India’s Pace Bowling Faces a Blow as LSG Trio Mayank Struggles

Three prominent fast bowlers from the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) โ Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan โ have recently undergone successful surgeries, taking them out of action for the next six months. The trio’s surgeries were necessitated by injuries sustained during the IPL 2025 season, and they will miss a significant portion of the upcoming domestic cricket season. Their rehabilitation will take place at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Mayank Yadav’s Setback
Mayank Yadav, the young Delhi pacer, has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. Following a challenging IPL 2025 season, where he managed to play only two matches, Yadav underwent back surgery in Christchurch, New Zealand, conducted by Dr. Rowan Schouten. Sources indicate that he is expected to be sidelined for six to eight months. This injury is particularly disappointing, as the 23-year-old had previously shown promise on the international stage, having played just three T20 Internationals for India. His struggle with injuries has limited his appearances, making this latest setback a significant blow for both him and LSG.
Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan’s Recoveries
Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan also faced injury challenges that led to their surgeries. Avesh underwent a right knee surgery on June 17, performed by renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who has treated several prominent cricketers. He was unable to participate fully in IPL 2025 due to this knee issue, finishing the tournament with 13 wickets in 13 matches. His last appearance for the Indian team was in December against South Africa. Mohsin, on the other hand, required an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, which he underwent last month. Initially, he had torn his ACL while playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy but had joined the LSG camp hoping to recover in time for the IPL. Unfortunately, he was replaced by Shardul Thakur due to his ongoing injury concerns.
Impact on Domestic Season
The injuries to these key players will have significant implications for their team and the upcoming domestic cricket season. All three bowlers are expected to miss the first half of the 2025-26 domestic season, including crucial matches in the Ranji Trophy. Their absence will leave a noticeable gap in the Lucknow Super Giants’ bowling lineup. As they focus on rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, the team will need to strategize on how to fill the void left by their absence. The return of these players is anticipated during the second leg of the Ranji Trophy next year, but until then, their team will have to adapt without their services.
Rajat Patidar’s Injury Concerns
In addition to the injuries faced by Yadav, Avesh, and Mohsin, Rajat Patidar, captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during IPL 2025, is also dealing with injury issues. Patidar is recovering from hand and heel injuries and has been advised by the BCCIโs medical team to rest. While he is participating in off-season training sessions with Madhya Pradesh, he has not yet resumed batting. This precautionary measure means he will miss the Duleep Trophy but is expected to return in time for the Ranji Trophy. His absence from the Duleep Trophy is a setback as he was in contention for the England tour before his injury.
