Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently outlined India’s strategic approach to information and communication technology (ICT) during a press conference in Delhi. He noted the significant differences in labor costs and per capita income between India and the U.S., arguing that these disparities create a scenario where both nations can benefit from collaboration. “There is certainly no competition; we actually complement each other,” he explained, underscoring the potential for mutual growth through partnerships in technology.

The minister underscored the critical role of advanced ICT products in achieving India’s strategic and economic goals. As the country aims to enhance its digital and artificial intelligence capabilities, access to cutting-edge technologies becomes increasingly vital. Goyal specifically mentioned the need for NVIDIA chips and AI equipment, stating that these tools are essential for maintaining national security and keeping pace with global advancements. He emphasized that India’s IT companies must adapt to the evolving technological landscape to remain competitive.

Goyal also highlighted the ongoing cooperation between India and the United States in the ICT sector, describing it as a significant advantage for India’s technology ecosystem. He expressed optimism about the recent trade pact between the two nations, which includes a reduction in tariffs on Indian products entering the U.S. from 50% to 18%. “It is a big win for India that America has agreed to provide us all these ICT products which are the need of the hour in our country,” he concluded, reflecting the positive outlook for future collaboration in technology and trade.
