Indian Leader to Strengthen Ties in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyz Republic
From August 29 to September 1, 2026, a significant diplomatic visit will take place as an Indian leader travels to both the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic. This journey comes at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, showcasing the strengthening of ties between India and Uzbekistan through a State Visit in Tashkent.
During the visit on August 29 and 30, discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, digital connectivity, defence, and energy. A visit to the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies is also planned, highlighting the deep cultural and people-to-people connections that exist between India and Uzbekistan.
Participation in SCO Summit in Kyrgyzstan
Following the engagements in Tashkent, the Indian leader will travel to Bishkek at the invitation of President Sadyr Zhaparov of the Kyrgyz Republic. This leg of the journey will be dedicated to participating in the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, a milestone event celebrating 25 years of the organization. Since becoming an active member in 2017, India has played a constructive role within the SCO framework.
The Indian leader aims to promote India’s vision within the region, emphasizing themes of security, connectivity, and opportunity. A focus will be placed on collaboration with fellow SCO members to combat terrorism, separatism, and extremism, which pose ongoing challenges to peace and stability.
Celebrating Central Asian Heritage
In addition to engaging in critical diplomatic discussions, the Indian leader will meet with President Zhaparov and other SCO heads of state. A notable highlight of this visit will be attending the Opening Ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games.
