IndiaAI Launches Hackathon for Mineral Discovery
In a significant step towards modernizing mineral exploration in India, IndiaAI, an Independent Business Division under the Digital India Corporation, has unveiled the IndiaAI Hackathon on Mineral Targeting. This initiative, in collaboration with the Geological Survey of India, aims to harness artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies to enhance mineral discovery and geological analysis across a designated area of 39,000 square kilometers in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Harnessing AI for Mineral Exploration
The IndiaAI Hackathon invites participants to utilize multi-parametric geoscience datasets, which include geology, geophysics, geochemistry, remote sensing, and borehole data. The goal is to identify concealed and deep-seated ore bodies, focusing on critical minerals such as Rare Earth Elements (REE), nickel, platinum-group elements (PGE), and copper, as well as other valuable commodities like diamonds, iron, manganese, and gold.
Participants will work on several key objectives during the hackathon. These include identifying new areas for exploration, emphasizing the location of unrevealed and deep-seated mineralized bodies through depth modeling, and developing AI/ML algorithms for data cleaning, integration, modeling, and validation. Additionally, teams will generate predictive maps that visualize exploration targets, enhancing the efficiency of mineral discovery.
