India Recognized as a Trusted Partner with Political Stability

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, delivered a significant address at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Annual Business Summit 2025, focusing on the theme โBuilding Trust โ India Firstโ. His speech centered on Indiaโs climate policy architecture, particularly emphasizing pathways for emerging economies. Yadav highlighted the importance of integrating environmental sustainability into economic growth, showcasing initiatives like Mission LiFE, which encourages collective action for environmental protection.
Indiaโs Climate Policy Framework
During his address, Shri Yadav outlined the core components of India’s climate policy architecture, which he described as essential for sustainable development. He emphasized the transition from a linear to a circular economy, aiming to minimize waste and enhance resource efficiency. The government has introduced Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) guidelines across various sectors, including plastics, batteries, and e-waste, to promote recycling and sustainable consumption. This shift is expected to attract significant investments, with the recycling sector alone drawing โน10,000 crore between 2022 and 2024. The circular economy is projected to be valued at $2 trillion by 2050, potentially creating around 10 million jobs in the process.
Mission LiFE: A Community-Driven Initiative
Shri Yadav praised Prime Minister Narendra Modiโs Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which aims to transform environmental protection into a participatory process. This initiative encourages communities, businesses, and individuals to work together towards saving the planet. Additionally, the campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ promotes tree planting as a means of environmental conservation. The introduction of Green Credit Rules under Mission LiFE incentivizes voluntary actions for sustainability, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among citizens and industries alike.
Building Climate Resilience
Recognizing the pressing challenges posed by climate change, India is committed to enhancing its resilience through various adaptation strategies. The government has released the Draft Framework of the Climate Finance Taxonomy, which outlines methods for classifying activities related to climate adaptation and mitigation. Furthermore, the development of the first National Adaptation Plan, set to be submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), aims to bolster adaptive capacity, strengthen knowledge systems, and reduce vulnerability to climate risks. This comprehensive approach underscores India’s dedication to addressing climate challenges while promoting sustainable growth.
Call to Action for Industry Leaders
In his closing remarks, Shri Yadav urged industry leaders to actively engage in building a self-reliant circular economy. He invited them to join the Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy Industry Coalition, launched under India’s G20 Presidency. This collaborative platform aims to facilitate knowledge-sharing and promote sustainable practices across industries. Yadav emphasized that, amid global geopolitical uncertainties, India stands as a trusted partner, bolstered by its political stability, visionary leadership, and commitment to a sustainable future.
