India Invests ₹735.70 Crore to Transform ITI Clusters
The 5th National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting for the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) took place yesterday, led by Smt. Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). Significant strides were made toward modernizing India’s Industrial Training Institute (ITI) ecosystem during this meeting.
The committee gathered key officials, including Shri Dilip Kumar, Director General of the Directorate General of Training (DGT), and representatives from both multilateral development banks and the industry. Together, they approved Strategic Investment Plans (SIPs) amounting to ₹735.70 crore for various ITI clusters across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana. This vital funding is expected to enhance a total of ₹2,171 crore across nine ITI clusters in the country.
Rajasthan, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh Investments
The NSC’s approvals focus on three major projects:
- Rajasthan – ₹241.00 crore: The SIP from M/s H.G. Infra Engineering Limited concerning the Bhiwadi ITI cluster was approved. The Bhiwadi cluster includes Government ITI Bhiwadi as the core hub and connects with additional spokes from nearby Government ITIs in Alwar, Neemrana, Tijara, and Kishangarh Bas.
- Telangana – ₹254.30 crore: An approved plan from M/s ZEN Technologies Limited for the Medchal ITI cluster comes following a thorough review. This cluster consolidates operations around Government ITI Medchal and includes spokes from Government ITIs in Alwal, Shameerpet, Kukunoorpally, and Siddipet.
- Uttar Pradesh – ₹240.40 crore: The National Skill Development Corporation’s (NSDC) SIP for the Meerut ITI cluster received approval, which centers around Government ITI Saket, Meerut, along with spokes from Government ITIs in Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Baghpat.
Driving Modernization through Industry Collaboration
These approved SIPs reflect the government’s commitment to an industry-led approach for upgrading ITIs, focusing on modern infrastructure and the introduction of new courses tailored to current and future workforce needs. With infrastructure enhancements, updated training programs, and strengthened operational capabilities, these efforts aim to align educational outcomes with industry requirements.
Significantly, the meeting saw the formal signing of a Shareholders’ Agreement (SHA) involving H.G. Infra Engineering Limited, the Government of Rajasthan, and MSDE. This milestone marks the beginning of implementation activities for the Bhiwadi ITI Cluster under PM-SETU, making Rajasthan the first state to execute an SHA under this initiative.
