Urban areas are responsible for two-thirds of global energy consumption, emissions, and pollution. Therefore, the collaboration between India and the EU is vital. Since 2017, this partnership has promoted sustainable city models, public-private investments, climate action, and disaster risk reduction. The Team Europe initiative has engaged with over 40 Indian municipalities, enhancing their understanding of climate-smart development.
H.E. Hervé Delphin, the Ambassador of the EU to India, emphasized the significance of this collaboration. He stated that the EU has been actively supporting the Indian government’s urban planning efforts. With over €45 million invested, the EU has leveraged more than €1 billion to support sustainable urbanization initiatives. This commitment will continue through 2025-2027, reinforcing the EU’s dedication to fostering sustainable cities in India.

Shri Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, set the tone for the forum by highlighting India’s commitment to urban innovation.
