India and Thailand Explore Opportunities to Boost Economic Ties

In a significant meeting held at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal engaged with Ms. Suphajee Suthumpun, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce. The discussions centered around enhancing the economic collaboration between India and Thailand, with a keen focus on bolstering bilateral trade and investment.

Both ministers explored avenues to expand business opportunities and deepen connections between their respective countries. They emphasized the necessity for improved cooperation and co-creation of solutions that aim for balanced and sustainable growth in their trading relationship.

The leaders also highlighted the importance of promoting trade activities that would bolster business networks and facilitate greater interaction between enterprises in both nations. This cooperation is pivotal to expanding market opportunities and enhancing business-to-business engagements.

In addition, the two sides exchanged insights on the progress of the ASEANIndia Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA), underlining the need for a timely review. They recognized the value of the India-Thailand Joint Trade Committee (JTC) as a platform for deeper bilateral interactions.

Through the meeting, both sides acknowledged the necessity of establishing a framework that not only supports greater market access but also offers mutual benefits for businesses in both India and Thailand. This balanced approach is vital for creating more opportunities across various sectors.

During the meeting, the ministers addressed a delegate of Thai businesses engaged in diverse industries like space technology, cold-chain logistics, food processing, health and wellness, and investment promotion. Their presence highlights the potential for collaboration in sectors where both countries can find common ground.

India and Thailand boast strong civilizational and cultural ties, backed by a strategic partnership that aims to expand bilateral trade and investment further. Existing frameworks have focused on facilitating trade processes, addressing market-access challenges, and enhancing connections with regional and global supply chains.
