India and Chile Push Forward Economic Partnership Negotiations
On August 26, 2026, Commerce Secretary Shri Rajesh Agrawal engaged in productive discussions with Ms. Paula Estévez Weinstein, the Vice-Minister of International Economic Relations for the Republic of Chile, in Santiago. This meeting was aimed at furthering the negotiations on the India–Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
India reaffirmed its dedication to fostering open and sustained engagement with Chile, emphasizing a balanced approach to enhance the economic partnership between the two nations. The leaders recognized their shared identity as members of the Global South and a common strategic vision, which serves as a robust foundation for strengthening bilateral economic cooperation and promoting mutual prosperity.
During the meeting, both parties stressed the significance of leveraging the strong and expanding relationship between India and Chile. They focused on ensuring that the CEPA transforms shared goals and aspirations into tangible and commercially viable opportunities for businesses in both countries.
Secretary Agrawal highlighted the enormous prospects for increased economic collaboration across various sectors, including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, energy, minerals, agriculture, machinery, and engineering. He noted that successfully concluding the CEPA negotiations would further accelerate the existing bilateral trade and economic partnership between India and Chile.
India is determined to finalize the CEPA negotiations by the end of this year. This agreement aims to establish a balanced and mutually beneficial framework, ensuring equitable and commercially significant results for businesses in both nations.
