Import of LNG from UAE

The government has taken various steps to increase the share of natural gas in the energy mix to 15% in 2030 from around 6% today. These include pipeline expansion of the national gas network, expansion of the city gas distribution (CGD) network, establishment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, domestic gas allocation to compressed natural gas (transport) / (domestic) pipelined natural gas CNG ( T)/PNG(D) in the no cut category, allowing freedom to market and price gas produced from high pressure/high temperature, deep and ultra deep water areas and from coal seams, sustainable alternative initiatives towards accessible transportation (SATAT) to promote Bio-CNG, etc.

The 10th July 2023, Indian Oil signed Heads of Agreement (HOA) with Total Energies Gas and Power Ltd (Total Energies) for the supply of up to 0.8MMTPA for a period of 10 years commencing in 2026. This contract covers the delivery of LNG from the Total Energies portfolio.

On the 13thth July 2023, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (Indian Oil) signed Heads of Agreement (HOA) with Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Company Limited (ADNOC LNG), UAE for the supply up to 1.2 million metric tons per year ( MMTPA) for a period of 14 years starting in 2026.

This information was given by the Minister of State at the Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas, Shri Rameswar Teli, in a written response to the Lok Sabha today.
