IICT and Netflix Launch Scholarships for Creative Talent
In a major initiative to bolster India’s creative sector, the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) has partnered with Netflix to offer scholarships to 100 students. This program will provide up to 80% financial support across six professional courses, including two one-year diploma programs and four six-month certificate programs.
The scholarships cover a variety of disciplines: Diplomas in Interactive Comics & Sequential Arts and Visual Effects Mastery, alongside Certificates in Virtual Art Department Content Creation, Media Tech Workflow, Art of Character Animation, and E-Sports & Gaming Management. This initiative reflects a commitment to nurturing the next generation of storytellers in a country renowned for its rich tradition of narrative artistry.
Strengthening India’s Content Creation Landscape
This announcement follows a recent meeting on August 5, 2026, between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos. During their discussion, Modi emphasized India’s potential as a global hub for content creation, rich in creative talent that can drive innovation across various platforms. The newly launched Netflix India Storytelling Initiative aims to invest in this talent pipeline, equipping young storytellers with skills suited for the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) sector, a key player in India’s emerging ‘Orange Economy.’
Accessible Learning Opportunities
The scholarships are open to students and working professionals from all over India, enhancing access to high-quality education in creative technologies. The curriculum for IICT’s Visual Effects Mastery and Media Tech Workflow programs has been meticulously designed to align with today’s industry standards, incorporating valuable insights from Netflix.
Industry Collaboration
Shri Chanchal Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Chairman of the IICT Board, remarked, “India’s creative economy is at an inflection point. As technology changes the landscape of storytelling, educational institutions must adapt. IICT serves as a vital link between India’s creative potential and the evolving needs of the global AVGC-XR industry. Collaborations with major industry players are crucial to integrating real-world knowledge into educational settings, thus preparing the workforce of tomorrow.”
Dr. Vishwas Deoskar, the CEO of IICT, added, “Our goal is not just to teach skills but to ensure they remain relevant. Working with Netflix allows us to infuse industry insights directly into our curriculum, enhancing both education and employment prospects for students. This collaboration will empower aspiring professionals as they prepare to join India’s thriving creative economy.”
Munjal Shroff, Chairman of the FICCI AVGC-XR Forum, acknowledged that the partnership among FICCI, IICT, and Netflix represents a pivotal shift towards aligning education with the needs of India’s AVGC-XR sector, aiming to create a workforce that is ready for the future.
