HUL Managing Director Rohit Jawa Sees Salary Increase to 23.23 Crore for FY25

Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) has reported a 3.75% increase in the total remuneration of its Managing Director, Rohit Jawa, for the fiscal year 2025, bringing his earnings to โ‚น23.23 crore. The annual report details that Jawa’s compensation package includes a salary of โ‚น3.65 crore, allowances of โ‚น11.45 crore, a bonus of โ‚น3.78 crore, and long-term incentive perquisites totaling โ‚น2.76 crore. This remuneration is significantly higher than the median employee salary, with a ratio of 146.47 times, although this is a decrease from the previous year’s ratio of 153.03 times.

Employee Compensation Trends

The annual report also highlights a decline in the number of permanent employees at HUL, which fell by 8.46% to 6,604 as of March 31, 2025, down from 7,215 the previous year. Despite this reduction, the median remuneration for employees increased by 8.39% during the same period. The report noted that the average salary increase for non-managerial employees was 4.62%, excluding promotions. This increase reflects the company’s competitive market positioning and financial performance relative to its peers.

Market Conditions and Company Strategy

In addressing shareholders, Rohit Jawa acknowledged a moderation in urban demand and a gradual recovery in rural consumption during FY25. He emphasized the company’s focus on driving volume growth and enhancing competitiveness amid these challenges. HUL Chairman Nitin Paranjpe commented on the difficult operating environment characterized by unpredictable weather, fluctuating commodity prices, and subdued consumer demand. He expressed optimism about India’s economic prospects, citing a growing middle class and a young workforce as key drivers for future growth in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector.

Strategic Developments and Future Outlook

HUL is adapting to changing consumer dynamics, particularly with increased digital access and information availability. The company announced its acquisition of the premium beauty brand Minimalist, aligning with its vision to become a leader in the beauty market in India. Additionally, HUL divested its water business, Pureit, and plans to demerge its ice cream division, which includes well-known brands like Kwality Wallโ€™s, Cornetto, and Magnum. For FY25, HUL reported a turnover of โ‚น60,680 crore and a profit after tax of โ‚น10,644 crore, indicating a solid financial performance despite the challenges faced in the market.
