In a significant move aimed at enhancing labor welfare and boosting employment, a roundtable meeting was convened today under the chairmanship of Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports. The meeting, held in New Delhi, brought together representatives from Central Trade Union Organisations (CTUOs) to discuss the newly proposed Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme and other labor welfare-oriented measures.

Union Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Smt. Shobha Karandlaje, along with senior officials from the Ministry, also attended the meeting, signaling the government’s commitment to engaging with trade unions in shaping policies that impact millions of workers across the nation.

Focus on the Employment Linked Incentive Scheme

The ELI scheme, which was announced in the recent Union Budget, was the centerpiece of the discussion. Dr. Mandaviya reiterated the governmentโ€™s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the labor force, emphasizing the critical role of trade unions in voicing the concerns and aspirations of workers. “The labor force is the backbone of the nationโ€™s economic growth and development,” Dr. Mandaviya stated, adding that the insights from trade unions are invaluable in crafting policies that are both effective and fair.

A detailed presentation on the ELI scheme was delivered during the meeting, highlighting its objectives of encouraging businesses to generate more employment and providing meaningful, sustainable jobs for the youth of India. The scheme is designed to incentivize companies to expand their workforce, thereby contributing to economic growth and addressing unemployment.

Inclusive Policy Formulation

Dr. Mandaviya invited suggestions from the trade unions regarding the formulation of the ELI scheme, stressing the importance of their input in ensuring that the policy serves the interests of all stakeholders. He assured the representatives that their feedback would be integral to the final design of the scheme.

Representatives from various CTUOs shared their perspectives on the ELI scheme and other labor welfare measures being implemented by the government. They highlighted the need for policies that promote fairness, inclusivity, and equitable growth, ensuring that the benefits of economic progress reach all sections of society.

Commitment to Continuous Engagement

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Mandaviya assured the trade unions that this meeting was part of an ongoing process of dialogue and collaboration. The government, he affirmed, is committed to regularly seeking the valuable input of trade unions to ensure that labor policies are aligned with the needs of workers and contribute to the nation’s overall development.

This meeting marks a significant step in the governmentโ€™s efforts to engage with key stakeholders in the labor sector, reflecting its dedication to fostering a collaborative approach in policymaking. The continued dialogue between the government and trade unions is expected to play a crucial role in shaping Indiaโ€™s labor policies in the coming years.
