Government Unveils Digital Brand Identity Manual

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is set to launch the Digital Brand Identity Manual (DBIM) tomorrow. This initiative aims to create a uniform digital identity across all government websites and digital platforms. The DBIM will define essential elements of a consistent digital identity, including visual aspects like logos, color palettes, typography, and imagery. It will also cover verbal identities, such as brand voice, messaging frameworks, and taglines. The ultimate goal is to enhance citizen engagement and improve the overall user experience in service delivery.
A Step Towards Digital Harmonization
The DBIM is part of the broader initiative known as Gov.In: Harmonisation of Government of India’s Digital Footprint. This initiative seeks to standardize the digital presence of various government ministries, departments, and agencies. By establishing a cohesive digital identity, the government aims to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s vision of transforming governance through technology. This transformation focuses on making government services more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly.
The DBIM will create a unified digital brand for the Government of India. By standardizing elements such as color palettes, typography, and iconography, the manual will ensure a consistent look and feel across all platforms. This approach will not only strengthen the integrity of government-hosted data but also enhance the trustworthiness of government services. The guidelines will extend beyond websites to include mobile applications and social media platforms, ensuring a seamless user experience across all digital touchpoints.
Key Components of the Digital Brand Identity Manual
The DBIM includes several key components designed to facilitate the harmonization of government digital services. First, the Digital Brand Identity Manual itself serves as a comprehensive guide to ensure visual and functional consistency across government websites. Second, the DBIM Toolkit will provide a set of tools that enable the seamless adoption of the manual’s guidelines.
Additionally, the GOV.IN CMS Platform will offer a standardized content management system tailored for DBIM-compliant websites and applications. This will streamline the process of updating and managing content across various platforms. A Central Content Publishing System will also be established to facilitate centralized content updates, ensuring that all information is current and accurate.
Moreover, social media integration will play a crucial role in this initiative. A unified approach to social media branding and digital outreach will help create a cohesive online presence for the government. These components work together to create a robust framework for a consistent digital identity.
Launch Event and Future Activities
The launch of the Digital Brand Identity Manual will take place on February 18, 2025, at the Taj Palace in New Delhi. This event will also mark the First CIO Conference 2025, bringing together key stakeholders from various government ministries. Shri Jitin Prasada, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Commerce & Industry, will officially launch the DBIM.
The event will serve as a platform to discuss the roadmap for adopting the DBIM across government websites and applications. Key highlights will include the release of the DBIM, the launch of the DBIM-compliant MeitY website, and comprehensive discussions on the components of harmonization. Additionally, capacity-building sessions for Chief Information Officers (CIOs) will be conducted to ensure effective implementation of the manual.
This initiative is led by the Digital Governance Division of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the National Informatics Centre. For more information on government digital services and platforms, visit www.nic.in.
