Government policy initiatives to promote renewable energy generation
Various policy initiatives taken for the promotion of Renewable Energy (RE) generation are as under:
(i) Waiver of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) charges for inter-State sale of solar and wind power for projects to be commissioned by 30th June 2025, with a provision in the order of this Ministry dt. 23.11.2021 for a gradual phasing out of waiver for projects commissioned from 01.07.2025 onwards, in order to have long-term visibility and certainty the renewable power generation.
(ii)ย Declaration of a trajectory for Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) up to the year 2029-30.
(iii)ย Setting up of Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks to provide land and transmission to RE developers for installation of RE projects at large scale.
(iv)ย ย Schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan ย (PM-KUSUM), Solar Rooftop Phase II, 12000 Mega Watt (MW) Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Scheme Phase II, etc.
(v)ย ย Laying of new transmission lines and creating new sub-station capacity under the Green Energy Corridor Scheme for evacuation of renewable power.
(vi)ย ย Notification of Promoting Renewable Energy through Green Energy Open Access Rules 2022, in June 2022.
(vii)ย ย Green Term Ahead Market (GTAM) and Green Day Ahead Market (GDAM) are operational to facilitate the sale of Renewable Energy Power through exchanges.
(viii) Ministry of Power has introduced a scheme for flexibility in the generation and scheduling of thermal/hydro stations through bundling with renewable energy which will help in the replacement of thermal/hydro with renewable energy.
