While developers can utilize partial wake locks for essential tasks—such as syncing photos or downloading content after the display has turned off—overuse of wake locks can significantly drain a smartphone’s battery. Google has established a threshold for what constitutes excessive usage: if an app holds partial wake locks for a total of three hours within a 24-hour period, it will be flagged as problematic.
