Google Search’s AI Mode Reaches 100 Million Users

Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced on Wednesday that the AI Mode in Search has surpassed 100 million monthly active users in the United States and India. This milestone was disclosed during the company’s second quarterly earnings call with investors. Additionally, Pichai revealed that another AI feature, AI Overviews, has achieved over two billion monthly users and is accessible in 40 languages across 200 countries and territories. Furthermore, reports indicate that Google has begun rolling out its Gemini 2.5 Pro and Deep Search features within AI Mode.

AI Mode in Search Achieves Major Milestone

During a recent blog post, Pichai expressed enthusiasm over the positive feedback received for AI Mode, which is designed to enhance the search experience. He noted that users primarily utilize this feature for more intricate and lengthy search queries. Despite being available only in the U.S. and India, AI Mode has quickly amassed 100 million monthly active users since its initial launch in the U.S. in May, followed by its introduction in India in early July. This rapid growth indicates a strong interest among users in leveraging AI for their search needs.

To further enhance AI Mode, Google plans to introduce new features promptly. Among these are the model picker feature and Deep Search, both of which have reportedly started rolling out to users. However, some users have yet to see these features in action. The model picker allows users to select the Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model, enabling them to pose questions related to mathematics, reasoning, and coding directly within the search interface.

Introducing New Features: Gemini 2.5 Pro and Deep Search

The Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model is a significant addition to AI Mode, providing users with advanced capabilities for complex queries. By selecting this model from a dropdown menu next to the “AI Mode” text, users can engage with the search engine in a more sophisticated manner. This enhancement aims to cater to users seeking detailed answers to challenging questions.

In addition to Gemini 2.5 Pro, Google is rolling out Deep Search, which is based on Gemini’s Dep Research. This new feature allows users to ask more complex or niche queries that may exceed the capabilities of standard AI Mode. Deep Search is designed to conduct broader searches to uncover relevant information, thereby improving the overall user experience.

Pichai addressed questions regarding the distinction between Gemini and AI Mode, acknowledging that while both products share similar functionalities, they serve unique purposes. He clarified that AI Mode focuses on information-driven queries, whereas Gemini is tailored for users seeking a conversational assistant. Pichai emphasized that there will be overlapping capabilities, but the goal is to create a more seamless experience for users over time.

Global Reach and Future Prospects

The impressive user base of AI Mode and AI Overviews highlights Google’s commitment to integrating artificial intelligence into everyday search experiences. With over two billion users engaging with AI Overviews, the feature’s global reach underscores the demand for AI-driven solutions in various languages and regions. As Google continues to innovate, the company aims to expand the accessibility and functionality of its AI features.

Looking ahead, Pichai’s comments suggest that Google is dedicated to refining its AI offerings. The introduction of new features like Gemini 2.5 Pro and Deep Search indicates a proactive approach to meeting user needs. As the tech giant navigates the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, it remains focused on enhancing user engagement and satisfaction through continuous improvements and updates.
