Google I/O Connect India 2025: Spotlight on Eight Indian Startups

Google recently held its I/O Connect India 2025 event in Bengaluru, where it introduced a range of AI-powered tools and programs specifically designed for the Indian developer community. During the event, eight local startups showcased innovative applications built using Google’s advanced AI models. Notably, Bengaluru-based Sarvam highlighted its new translation tool, developed with Google’s Gemma 3 model, while other startups like CoRover, Dashverse, and Nykaa also demonstrated their AI-driven features powered by Google’s Gemini.
Sarvam’s Innovative Translation Tool
At the forefront of the event was Sarvam, a Bengaluru-based AI startup that unveiled Sarvam-Translate, an open-source translation model. This tool utilizes Google’s Gemma 3 model to provide translations for long-form content across all 22 Indian languages. Sarvam-Translate is offered as a hosted translation API, which Google claims processes over 100,000 translation requests weekly. Additionally, this API supports Samvaad, Sarvam’s multilingual conversational AI platform, enhancing communication across diverse linguistic backgrounds.
CoRover, another AI firm, showcased its BharatGPT AI model, which employs Google’s Gemini model to create customizable, multilingual chatbots for businesses. This innovative solution has reportedly served over 1 billion users and supported more than 25,000 enterprises and developers, managing over 20 billion interactions. CoRover’s integration of Gemini through the Google Cloud AI Stack exemplifies the potential of AI in enhancing customer service.
AI Enhancements Across Various Sectors
Several other startups also demonstrated the versatility of Google’s AI models. Glance utilized Gemini and Imagen through Vertex AI to offer a personalized user experience, allowing individuals to upload selfies and receive tailored style suggestions. In the education sector, Entri integrated Gemini into its AI-powered Teacher Assistant and Interview Coach tools, providing real-time support in Indian languages. Google reported that over 53% of users accessed the Teacher Assistant, while an impressive 91% tried the Interview Coach.
Invideo is revolutionizing video creation by leveraging Gemini models like Imagen 4 and Veo 3, enabling users to transform text prompts into full-length videos. This innovative approach simplifies the video production process, allowing anyone to create content with ease. Retail giant Nykaa is also harnessing Gemini through Chrome’s multimodal API, facilitating visual product searches on its fashion platform. Users can take photos to find matching items from Nykaa’s extensive catalog, enhancing the shopping experience.
Emerging Startups and Googleโs Support Initiatives
Other notable participants in the event included Dashverse and Toonsutra. Dashverse utilized Gemini, Veo 3, and Lyria 2 on Vertex AI to enhance its platforms, Dashtoon Studio and Frameo, which convert text prompts into comics and cinematic videos. These tools are reportedly serving over 2 million users, showcasing the growing demand for creative AI applications. Meanwhile, Toonsutra is leveraging Gemini 2.5 Pro and Lyria 2 to create Indian-language webcomics, incorporating music and character voices, and utilizing Veo 3’s image-to-video feature to enhance comic visuals.
In addition to showcasing these innovations, Google announced the second cohort of its Google for Startups Accelerator: Apps program, which features 20 AI-driven Indian startups. Over the past decade, Google’s accelerator programs have supported more than 230 startups in India, highlighting the company’s commitment to fostering innovation in the region. This initiative aims to empower emerging businesses and drive technological advancements in the Indian startup ecosystem.
