Google has begun rolling out a new extension for its Gemini app, allowing users to control their smart home devices seamlessly. Some users have already reported seeing the extension, although verification from Gadgets 360 staff members has not confirmed its presence yet.
Once the extension becomes available, users can easily activate it through the Gemini web client or the mobile app. For those using the web client, the process is straightforward. Users need to click on Settings, then navigate to Extensions, and finally toggle the button next to Google Home. For mobile app users, the steps are similar. They should tap on their profile picture, find the Extensions menu, and look for @Google Home. After locating it, users can toggle the button to enable the extension.
Features and Capabilities of the Extension
The new Gemini extension offers users the ability to control a wide range of smart home appliances. According to Google’s support page, the extension can manage devices such as lights, sockets, switches, air conditioning units, thermostats, fans, curtains, smart TVs, speakers, washing machines, and more. Limitations of the Gemini Extension
While the Gemini extension offers impressive capabilities, it does come with certain limitations. Currently, the feature supports both text and audio inputs, but it only accepts commands in English. This restriction may limit usability for non-English speakers. Additionally, the extension does not support commands for security devices that require a PIN, nor can it stream video feeds from cameras.
