Scene 1: Standing Her Ground on the Floor
Neil sits down beside Teju and says, “Teju, if you want to leave this marriage, you can.” Teju turns towards him and replies, “It’s easy for you to say that.” She shifts her weight, her skirt brushing the floor. “Even in a forced match like this, a woman’s self‑respect still matters,” she adds. “I will not give up mine.” Without waiting, she drops to the ground and crosses her legs. “Look at me now,” she says, her gaze steady. “Everything that happened to me is your fault.” She sighs and lets her head drop. “My dreams lie in pieces,” she whispers. Neil’s face softens. He reaches out. “Teju, I am sorry.” Teju pulls back her hand. “Please don’t say you’re sorry. It sounds like you’re making fun of me.” Her words hang in the air. She stands, her arms folded. “You brought me here, and now you act like none of this matters.”
The silence grows heavy. Neil opens his mouth, but Teju speaks first. “I sat by myself, hoping you would understand.” He nods. “I do.” Just then, both of them step sideways at the same time and he bumps into her. They stumble together and land on the bed with a soft thud. Teju lets out a small cry. Neil says, “Are you all right?” Before either can answer, the door swings open. Rituraj walks in, his eyes lighting up. “Sorry to break your romantic moment,” he says with a laugh. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a strip of tablets. “You asked for these, Teju.” Teju rubs her forehead. “I don’t need those.” Neil sits up. “Forget the pills. A bit of rest will do her good.” Rituraj arches an eyebrow. “Rest, sure.” He tucks the tablets away and leaves the room with a final smirk.
Scene 2: Ice for Relief and Words of Hope
Teju lies back on the bed, holding her head. “It feels like it’s going to split,” she says. Neil tilts his head. “Would you like the medicine now?” She shakes her head. “No. I don’t want those tablets.” He nods and stands. “I have another idea.” Neil returns with a small pack of ice. He breaks off a piece and offers it to Teju. “Rub this between your thumb and finger,” he instructs. Teju takes it and presses it gently against her skin. The cold seeps in and she breathes out. “That helps,” she admits. Neil settles on the edge of the bed. “I will support you,” he says quietly. “I want you to chase your dreams. Your MA exams matter.” Teju looks up at him. “Do you think your family will let me sit for those exams after all that’s happened?”
He meets her eyes. “I will tell them. I will stand by you.” For a moment, she studies his face. Then she nods. “Okay.” Neil smiles. “Good. Now, try to sleep.” Teju shifts under the covers. “Will you sleep here?” He stands and brushes past. “I’ll take the couch.” “Thank you,” she whispers. He unrolls a pillow on the couch by the door. “Call me if you need anything.” Teju closes her eyes. Neil turns off the light and the door clicks softly behind him.
Scene 3: Sacred Sweetness and Quiet Acceptance
Morning light filters into the room. Teju reaches for her phone and calls Mukta. “Hello?” she says. Mukta’s voice comes through clear and firm. “Be a good daughter‑in‑law, Teju. If you are not, people will question your home and your family.” Teju stays silent. “Try your best,” Mukta adds. “And remember, a good daughter‑in‑law is also a good wife.” Teju nods, though Mukta cannot see her. “I will try,” she says softly and ends the call. Later, Teju stands in the kitchen. She shapes a batch of Modak, her hands moving with care. Once they are ready, she carries the plate to the dining table. She places the Modak in front of each person. No one moves. The family sits in silence.
Leena leans forward. “What are these?” Teju says, “These are Modak. I made them for my first kitchen ritual.”
Leena reaches for the plate, but Teju gently moves her hand away. “Wait,” she says. “It is Sankashti Chaturthi. These are Prasad.” Leena frowns, then takes one. She chews slowly. “They are good,” she admits, and passes the plate. One by one, the family members take a Modak. Prachi smiles and says, “You made these?” Teju nods. Yash takes a bite. “These taste nice,” he says. Teju watches as the plate goes empty. A quiet peace settles at the table.
The Episode Ends Here
Precap: Earlier, Nandini pointed out how Rituraj had barged in on Teju and Neil during their first night. With a grin, Rituraj then teased his cousins about one pillow ending up on the couch and the other on the bed.
