General Assembly President Opens Session with Theme ‘Better Together’
Calling the eightieth session of the General Assembly “non-ordinary,” newly elected President Annalena Baerbock of Germany emphasized the need for action rather than celebration. In addition to the inaugural address, the General Assembly conducted other business, including the appointment of several countries to its Credentials Committee. The newly appointed members include Andorra, Botswana, China, the Dominican Republic, Malaysia, the Russian Federation, Senegal, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States. The Assembly also approved a request from the Chair of the Committee on Conferences regarding the allocation of conference services for upcoming meetings of the Assembly’s subsidiary organs during the regular session.
