Food Processing Units In Karnataka

In order to ensure the overall growth and development of the food processing sector across the country including Karnataka, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has implemented the Central Sector Umbrella Scheme – Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY) from 2016-17, centrally sponsored PM Formalization of the Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFME) from 2020-21 and the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) from 2021-22.

Under the component schemes of PMKSY, MoFPI mainly provides credit related capital grants with a total disbursement of Rs 4600 Cr for 15 cycles of finance fees. The Ministry also provides financial, technical and commercial support to micro food processing enterprises through the PMFME program with an outlay of Rs 10,000 Cr for a period of 5 years (from 2020-21 to 2024-25), while PLISFPI aims to facilitate the expansion of food processing capacity by creating champion brands in the food processing sector with a total outlay of Rs 10,900 Cr for a period of 6 years (from 20 21-22 to 2026-2 7).

From 2019-20, a total of 373 food processing units have been approved for assistance under Food Processing and Preservation Capacity Building/Expansion (CEFPPC), a component scheme of PMKSY, of which 16 units are located in Karnataka.

A total of 38466 food processing micro enterprises have been approved for assistance under PMFME from 2020-21, out of which 2444 food processing micro enterprises are located in Karnataka.
