In a significant stride towards empowering the youth and artisans of India, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and the Ministry of Education, emphasized the governmentโ€™s commitment to skilling Indiaโ€™s youth to meet global demands. This announcement was made during an event celebrating Flipkartโ€™s five-year milestone of its Samarth initiative, dedicated to uplifting artisans, weavers, self-help groups (SHGs), women, and rural entrepreneurs.

At the event, Flipkartโ€™s Supply Chain Operations Academy (SCOA) and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) formalized their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration, under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0, aims to upskill thousands of young individuals across India, enhancing their employability in the rapidly growing e-commerce and supply chain sectors. The initiative includes a comprehensive training program featuring seven days of intensive classroom learning followed by 45 days of hands-on industry exposure at Flipkartโ€™s facilities.

Shri Jayant Chaudhary highlighted the importance of this partnership, noting that it aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He stated, โ€œThe Government of India remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering artisans and promoting the diverse crafts that are integral to our rich cultural heritage. The collaboration between MSDE and Flipkart’s Supply Chain Operations Academy (SCOA), formalized at the celebration of Flipkart Samarthโ€™s journey, is a significant step towards equipping our youth with the skills to thrive in the modern marketplace.โ€

The event, which brought together over 250 industry leaders, artisans, and government officials, was a celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage and the strides made in integrating traditional crafts into the digital marketplace. Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Flipkart Group, emphasized the impact of the Samarth initiative over the past five years, noting that it has positively influenced 1.8 million livelihoods, preserved over 100 traditional art forms, and supported the growth of thousands of sellers.

A key highlight of the event was the launch of Flipkartโ€™s โ€˜Samarth storefrontโ€™ on its app, offering artisans and MSMEs a virtual platform to showcase their products to over 500 million customers across India. This initiative underscores Flipkartโ€™s ongoing commitment to leveraging e-commerce to expand market access for Indiaโ€™s traditional artisans and craftsmen.

The event concluded with a panel discussion featuring industry leaders and experts who discussed the future of Indiaโ€™s artisan community, the critical role of skill development, and the potential of e-commerce to create sustainable livelihoods. As Flipkart continues to drive growth in the e-commerce sector, this collaboration with the government marks a significant step forward in preparing Indiaโ€™s youth and artisans for the future.
