Adorning the catalogue cover, lot no. 88, is a quintessential example of Sabavala’s work from the 1960s. It is an evocative seascape constructed with meticulously graded horizontal bands of colour, hinting at a distant horizon where sea and sky converge. This lot is estimated to sell at INR 3,00,00,000 – 4,00,00,000.
Two important works from diverse subjects by artist M F Husain are also the highlight of the catalogue. In lot no. 44, Husain deviates from his signature style to create an iconic anti-war painting. This work was his response to the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, which resulted with the India-Pakistan conflict. This lot is estimated to be acquired at INR 5,50,00,000 – 8,50,00,000. Lot no. 53, showcases a delicate interplay between a musician and her instrument, the sitar. Rendered in strokes of pink, green, and beige, the figure is partially illuminated, with soft light accentuating her sitar, face, and hands. This lot is estimated to sell at INR 2,00,00,000 – 3,00,00,000. Lot no. 31 titled The Blue Pool is an acrylic on canvas creation by K G Subramanyan, estimated to sell at INR 50,00,000 – 70,00,000. Lot no. 65, exhibits the signature style of Ram Kumar, one of India’s most significant modernist painters. Known for his abstract landscapes, Kumar’s works often evoke a sense of melancholy, vastness, and solitude. It is expected to sell at INR 60,00,000 – 80,00,000
