Exciting News: Dhadak 2 Receives U/A 16+ Certification!

In a significant development for Bollywood, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has finally granted clearance to the much-anticipated film Dhadak 2, which had been stalled since February. The film, directed by Shazia Iqbal and produced by Karan Joharโ€™s Dharma Productions and Zee Studios, received a U/A 16+ rating but not without extensive edits. Key dialogues and scenes have been altered or censored, reflecting the board’s sensitivity towards caste-related themes.

CBFC’s Edits and Changes

The CBFC’s approval came with a list of mandated changes to *Dhadak 2*. Notably, the dialogue โ€œ3,000 years of backlog will not be cleared in just 70 yearsโ€ was modified to โ€œThe backlog of age-old discrimination will not be cleared in just 70 years.โ€ This change mirrors a similar adjustment made in the recently released film *Phule*, which also addressed caste issues. Other dialogues underwent significant alterations, such as the line โ€œNilesh, yeh kalam dekh rahe ho… Raaj kar rahe hain,โ€ which was changed to โ€œYeh chota sa dhakkan puri kalam ka thoda sa hissa hai aur baki ke hai hum; phir bhi hamare sar par baithe hua hai kyon.โ€

Additionally, the board muted caste slurs like โ€˜chamarโ€™ and โ€˜bhangi,โ€™ replacing them with the term โ€˜junglee.โ€™ Other phrases were also softened, including a long dialogue that was rephrased to avoid direct references to caste discrimination. These changes highlight the CBFC’s ongoing efforts to navigate sensitive social issues within Indian cinema.

Visual Cuts and Censorship

In addition to dialogue changes, the CBFC implemented several visual cuts. A scene depicting a character urinating on Nilesh was removed, and the color of a dog in another scene was altered. Furthermore, a moment where Nileshโ€™s father faces humiliation was also reduced. The board’s scrutiny extended to the recitation of a poem, โ€˜Thakur Ka Kuan,โ€™ which was censored, and a doha by Saint Tulsidas in a song was replaced.

The CBFC also mandated a longer disclaimer, increasing its duration from 20 seconds to 1 minute and 51 seconds. The filmmakers were instructed to ensure that this updated disclaimer is read aloud during the film, emphasizing the board’s commitment to responsible content dissemination.

Film Details and Anticipation

*Dhadak 2* has a runtime of approximately 146 minutes, making it a substantial feature film. It is a remake of the acclaimed Tamil movie *Pariyerum Perumal*, released in 2018. The film stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, both of whom have expressed excitement about the project. Chaturvedi has described the script as wonderful and has praised Dimri as an amazing co-star.

As the film gears up for its release, anticipation continues to build among audiences. The changes made by the CBFC reflect a broader conversation about the portrayal of caste and social issues in Indian cinema, making *Dhadak 2* a film to watch closely.
