The Journey to Casting Junaid and Khushi
Advait Chandan’s journey to casting Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor was not without its challenges. Initially, he had reservations about their suitability for the roles. Chandan admitted, “I had never met Khushi before, and I was unsure if Junaid would be the right fit.” However, the director’s doubts began to fade after spending time with the young actors. Through rehearsals and readings, he grew more confident in their abilities.
Chandan humorously noted, “Firstly, even I am very young. My birth date is falsely mentioned on Google. In fact, I am younger than Junaid and Khushi!” This light-heartedness reflects his approach to working with the fresh talent. He emphasized the importance of preparation, stating that both actors arrived on set punctually and were dedicated to learning their lines. Junaid, in particular, had to dig deep to embody his character, Gucci. Chandan expressed satisfaction, saying, “Today, when I look back, there could have been no better Gucci or even Baani for that matter.”

He explained, “At places, I have used the real names of the apps and, in some places, I haven’t. This was due to legal issues.” For instance, while the film mentions Tinder, Chandan opted for a more generic interface for other apps to avoid the risk of the film appearing outdated in the future.
This thoughtful approach reflects Chandan’s commitment to creating a timeless film. He recalled a similar challenge while working on Secret Superstar, where he faced issues with using real app interfaces. By opting for suggestive designs, he aims to keep Loveyapa relevant for years to come.
