Enhancing Connectivity for Maha Kumbh Mela 2025
As the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 approaches, preparations are in full swing to accommodate millions of devotees and visitors. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is spearheading significant upgrades to the telecom infrastructure in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. This initiative aims to ensure seamless communication during the world’s largest religious gathering. With advanced technology and optimized networks, the DoT is working closely with telecom service providers to support the expected influx of attendees.
Upgrading Telecom Infrastructure in Prayagraj City
To facilitate a smooth experience for visitors, extensive upgrades have been made to the telecom infrastructure throughout Prayagraj. A total of 126 kilometers of optical fiber has been laid across the city, enhancing the backbone of the telecom network. This upgrade is crucial for maintaining reliable connectivity during the Mela. Additionally, 328 new towers and masts have been installed, significantly improving coverage in urban areas.
Moreover, the deployment of 575 new Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) across various mobile technologies is set to bolster connectivity. Existing BTS units have also been upgraded, with 1,462 units receiving enhancements. These efforts ensure robust and uninterrupted communication for the millions expected to attend the event. The focus on improving telecom infrastructure reflects the commitment to providing a seamless experience for all attendees, allowing them to stay connected with loved ones and access vital information during the Mela.
Enhancements in the Mela Area
The Mela area is anticipated to host an unprecedented number of devotees, necessitating further enhancements to telecom services. To meet this demand, 192 kilometers of optical fiber cable (OFC) has been laid specifically for the Mela area. This infrastructure will provide high-speed and reliable network coverage, essential for effective communication.
In addition to the optical fiber, 78 CoWs (Transportable Towers) and 150 outdoor Small Cell solutions are being deployed in crowded zones. These measures will ensure smooth communication even in densely populated areas. Furthermore, the deployment of 352 new BTS units, along with the upgrade of 50 existing units, will fortify telecom services in the Mela area. These enhancements are designed to provide efficient connectivity for devotees and visitors, ensuring that everyone can stay connected during this significant event.
Optimizing Networks in Public Spaces and Highways
The DoT is also focusing on optimizing telecom services in key public spaces and along major highways leading to Prayagraj. This includes enhancing connectivity at transport hubs such as railway stations, bus stations, and airports. Special attention is being given to holding areas, parking spaces, and the Green Corridor, a vital route for traffic flow.
By ensuring consistent network service in high-traffic zones, the DoT aims to facilitate smooth communication for all attendees. This optimization is crucial for managing the large crowds expected during the Mela. The enhancements will not only improve connectivity but also contribute to the overall safety and convenience of visitors, allowing them to navigate the city with ease.
Citizen-Centric Services and Disaster Preparedness
To prioritize public safety and convenience, telecom providers have established 53 help desks across the Mela area. These help desks will assist visitors with services such as reporting suspected fraud communications and blocking lost or stolen mobile devices. Additionally, electro-magnetic radiation testing has been conducted to ensure that all telecom towers operate within permissible limits, safeguarding public health.
The DoT is also implementing a Cell Broadcast Alert facility and a Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) integrated platform. These systems will be used to send emergency alerts, disaster warnings, and general public awareness messages throughout the Mela period. Furthermore, three disaster management centers have been set up, operated by major telecom providers like Airtel, BSNL, Jio, and Vi. These centers will support emergency communications and ensure prompt responses during any crisis, enhancing the safety of attendees.
The telecom infrastructure enhancements for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 are designed to provide seamless connectivity and improve the overall experience for millions of pilgrims and visitors. The DoT’s commitment to optimizing services reflects the importance of this significant global event, ensuring that attendees can stay connected and informed throughout the Mela.
