Enhancing Civil Services Training in India
The Indian government is taking significant steps to improve the training of civil service faculty. On December 9, 2024, Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, will inaugurate the Advanced Case Writing and Teaching Workshop. This event will take place at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service in New Delhi. The workshop aims to enhance the skills of faculty members from Civil Services Training Institutions (CSTIs) across the country. Additionally, Dr. Singh will launch the Amrit Gyaan Kosh Portal, a new resource for accessing case studies and teaching materials.

The Advanced Case Writing and Teaching Workshop is a collaborative effort between the Capacity Building Commission, the Asian Development Bank Institute, and the Stanford Leadership Academy for Development. The workshop will host 60 faculty members from CSTIs nationwide. It will occur in two cohorts, from December 9-13 and December 16-20, 2024. The primary goal is to build the capacity of faculty members to improve the quality of public administration training.
During the workshop, participants will learn how to create high-quality case studies and teach them effectively. The program is part of the Amrit Gyaan Kosh initiative, which aims to develop a repository of India-centric public administration case studies. Faculty members were selected through a rigorous process, ensuring that only the most qualified individuals participated. By the end of the workshop, participants will have the skills to develop structured case outlines, conduct insightful interviews, and write compelling cases.
Key Instructors and Their Contributions
The workshop will feature prominent instructors from the Stanford Leadership Academy for Development. Notable instructors include Mr. R. Kent Weaver, Professor Emeritus of Public Policy and Government at Georgetown University; Mr. Blair Cameron, a consultant with the World Bank; and Mr. Dinsha Mistree, a Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University. Their expertise will provide invaluable insights to the participants.
These instructors will guide faculty members through advanced case writing techniques and effective teaching strategies. Participants will learn to align their case studies with global best practices. This collaboration with international experts will enhance the quality of training provided to civil servants in India.
