Empowering Youth Through Vocational Training

In a significant step towards uplifting underprivileged youth, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between the Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC) in Gurugram and South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL). The signing took place in New Delhi, in the presence of notable officials, including Ms. Rupinder Brar, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Coal. This collaboration aims to provide vocational training to economically weaker sections of society, equipping them with essential skills for self-employment.

A Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility

The vocational training program is part of SECL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. This program is designed to benefit 400 candidates, providing them with the necessary skills to secure self-employment. The initiative will receive a substantial allocation of Rs. 3.12 Crore. Under the terms of the agreement, ATDC will set up training centers for 300 candidates in a non-residential self-employed tailor program across the SECL regions of Bishrampur, Sohagpur, and Korba.

Moreover, an additional 100 candidates will participate in a fully residential program at the ATDC training center in Chhindwada, Madhya Pradesh. This program will include free boarding and lodging, ensuring that candidates can focus entirely on their training. The selection of candidates will prioritize those residing within a 25-kilometer radius of SECL’s establishments, ensuring that local youth benefit from this initiative.

Empowering Underprivileged Youth

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by key figures from both organizations, including Shri Biranchi Das, Director (P) of SECL, and Dr. Vijay Mathur, Director General and CEO of ATDC. The presence of these leaders underscores the importance of this initiative. Under the guidance of the Minister of Coal, the program aims to empower underprivileged youth in coalfield regions.

By providing vocational training, the initiative seeks to create employment opportunities and contribute to the broader vision of Viksit Bharat, or Developed India. This program not only aims to enhance the skills of the participants but also strives to foster a sense of self-reliance and dignity among the youth. The collaboration between SECL and ATDC represents a proactive approach to addressing the challenges faced by economically disadvantaged communities.

A Step Towards Sustainable Livelihoods

The vocational training program is a crucial step towards building sustainable livelihoods for the youth of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. By equipping them with skills in tailoring and design, the initiative opens doors to various employment opportunities. This training can lead to self-employment, allowing participants to start their own businesses or work in the garment industry.

The program’s design reflects a commitment to long-term impact. It not only focuses on immediate skill acquisition but also emphasizes the importance of creating a supportive environment for the participants. By establishing training centers in local areas, SECL and ATDC ensure that the training is accessible and relevant to the community’s needs.
