Empowering Livestock Economies: A Conclave in Pune
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, part of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, is set to host an important event. The Entrepreneurship Development Conclave, themed “Empowering Entrepreneurs: Transforming Livestock Economies,” will take place on January 13, 2025, in Pune, Maharashtra. This event aims to bring together various stakeholders in the livestock sector to discuss challenges and opportunities.
The conclave will be attended by prominent figures, including the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, who will serve as the Chief Guest. Other notable attendees include the Minister of State for FAHD and Panchayati Raj, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, and the Minister of State for FAHD and Minority Affairs, Shri George Kurian. Additionally, Shri Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, and Smt. Pankaja Pradnya Munde, the Minister of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying for the Maharashtra government, will also grace the occasion. Senior officials from the Department, along with animal husbandry secretaries from various states and Union Territories, are expected to participate.
Objectives of the Conclave
The primary goal of the Entrepreneurship Development Conclave is to unite key players in the livestock sector. This includes policymakers, cooperatives, industry associations, entrepreneurs, and financial institutions. By bringing these groups together, the conclave aims to unlock the potential of the livestock economy.
The event will serve as a platform for stakeholders to discuss the challenges they face and share effective solutions. It will also promote entrepreneurship and sustainable practices within the sector. The Government of India has initiated flagship schemes like the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) and the National Livestock Mission (NLM) to support this growth. The AHIDF has an outlay of ₹29,110.25 crores, while the NLM has an outlay of ₹2,300 crores. By showcasing the opportunities available under these schemes, the conclave aims to empower rural farmers and small enterprises, driving inclusive growth in the livestock sector.
Key Features of the Conclave
The Entrepreneurship Development Conclave will feature several significant activities. One of the highlights will be the inauguration of the National Livestock Mission – Entrepreneurship Development Programme (NLM – EDP) Dashboard. This dashboard will provide a comprehensive overview of key project information to the public.
Additionally, the event will see the inauguration of 40 projects supported under the AHIDF and NLM-EDP, with a total worth of ₹545.04 crores. The release of the National Livestock Mission Operational Guidelines 2.0 and Success Story Booklets will also take place during the conclave.
Panel discussions will be another key component of the event. Topics will include “Catalyzing Growth in Livestock Sector: Entrepreneurship, Processing and Opportunities” and “Role of Banks and MSMEs in Livestock Sector & Credit Facilitation.” These discussions will feature participation from government officials, industry leaders, financial institutions, and representatives from cooperatives and industry associations.
