Empowering Farmers: A Call to Action

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar recently addressed the Akhil Mewar Region Jat Mahasabha in Chittorgarh, emphasizing the vital role of farmers in India’s economy. He urged farmers to recognize their strength and independence, stating that they should not rely on external help. According to Dhankhar, when farmers thrive, the entire nation benefits. His remarks highlight the importance of farmers as providers and the need for them to harness their political and economic power.
Farmers as Pillars of the Economy
In his speech, Vice President Dhankhar underscored the significance of farmers in the economic landscape of India. He stated, “When the economic situation of farmers improves, the country’s situation improves.” This statement reflects a deep understanding of the interconnectedness between agriculture and national prosperity. Farmers are not just food producers; they are essential contributors to the economy. Dhankhar emphasized that farmers possess both political strength and economic capability, urging them to leverage these attributes for their benefit.
He also highlighted the importance of self-reliance among farmers. “Farmers should not look to anyone or depend on anyone for help,” he asserted. This call for independence is crucial in a time when many farmers face challenges due to market fluctuations and climate change. By fostering a sense of self-sufficiency, Dhankhar aims to empower farmers to take charge of their economic destinies. He believes that with the right mindset and resources, farmers can significantly improve their livelihoods and, in turn, contribute to the nation’s growth.
The Legacy of Social Justice
Reflecting on the Jat reservation movement that took place 25 years ago, Dhankhar spoke about the progress made since then. He recalled being part of the movement that aimed to secure social justice for marginalized communities. “I am here 25 years later, and the results of that effort are visible in the administrative services of the country and the state,” he noted. This acknowledgment of past struggles serves as a reminder of the importance of social justice in shaping a more equitable society.
Dhankhar urged those who benefited from the reservation system to remember their roots and the collective efforts that led to their success. He emphasized that the movement for social justice in Mewar stands as a global example of peaceful advocacy. “There was no disorder, no violence,” he proudly stated, highlighting the disciplined approach taken by the community. This legacy of peaceful activism is essential for future movements, as it sets a standard for how social change can be achieved without conflict.
Encouraging Agricultural Innovation and Cooperation
In his address, Vice President Dhankhar encouraged farmers to engage with Agricultural Science Centers. He pointed out that there are over 730 such centers available to assist farmers in improving their practices. “Donโt leave them alone; go there and ask themโ’What services will you offer us?'” he urged. By actively seeking help and information, farmers can learn about new technologies and government policies that can enhance their productivity.
Dhankhar also stressed the importance of value addition in agriculture. He questioned why farmers are not increasing the value of their products, pointing out that many businesses thrive on agricultural goods. He encouraged farmers to explore opportunities in livestock and dairy production, suggesting that they expand beyond traditional products. “There should be more growth in this sector,” he stated, advocating for a diverse range of dairy products like buttermilk, yogurt, and ice cream.
Furthermore, he called upon the youth to engage in agricultural business. “Agriculture production is the worldโs largest and most precious trade,” he remarked. By involving themselves in cooperatives and agricultural enterprises, young people can contribute to the economy and secure their futures. Dhankhar’s vision for a thriving agricultural sector hinges on innovation, cooperation, and the active participation of farmers and their families.
