Empowering Entrepreneurs in Livestock Economics
The Entrepreneurship Development Conclave 2025 took place on January 13, 2025, at G.D. Madulkar Natya Griha in Pune. This yearโs theme, โEmpowering Entrepreneurs Transforming Livestock Economics,โ focused on enhancing the livestock sector through entrepreneurship. The event was inaugurated by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, along with other dignitaries, including Maharashtraโs Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Smt. Pankaja Munde. The conclave aimed to foster collaboration among stakeholders in the livestock industry and promote innovative practices.
Launch of Key Initiatives
During the conclave, Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh unveiled the top 20 projects under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) and the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF). These initiatives are designed to boost the livestock sector by providing financial support and resources to entrepreneurs. The ministers visited various exhibition stalls, engaging with entrepreneurs and recognizing the top-performing states in the AHIDF and Entrepreneurship Programme. Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu were acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to the AHIDF, while Karnataka, Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh were celebrated for their achievements in the Entrepreneurship Programme.
Additionally, banks such as Canara Bank, State Bank of India, and HDFC Bank received recognition for their credit support under these schemes. This collaboration between the government and financial institutions is crucial for empowering entrepreneurs and ensuring the growth of the livestock sector.
New Guidelines and Awareness Campaigns
The conclave also saw the launch of two compendiums that highlight success stories of beneficiaries from the AHIDF and NLM. The NLM Operational Guidelines 2.0 and a Monitoring Dashboard for the NLM scheme were introduced to streamline operations and enhance transparency. Furthermore, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying declared January 14 to February 13 as “Animal Husbandry and Animal Welfare Month.” This month-long initiative aims to raise awareness and educate the public about animal husbandry practices and welfare.
In his address, Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh emphasized the importance of animal husbandry in rural economic development. He called for increased participation in government entrepreneurship programs and urged banks to simplify loan processes for farmers and women entrepreneurs. The focus on education and awareness is vital for fostering a culture of entrepreneurship in the livestock sector.
The Role of Innovation and Collaboration
Smt. Pankaja Munde, in her speech, highlighted the significance of entrepreneurship in enhancing productivity within the livestock sector. She urged banks to make the loan application process more accessible for farmers. Shri George Kurien praised Pune as an educational hub and noted that the AHIDF and NLM have created over 15,000 jobs. Meanwhile, Shri S.P. Singh Baghel advocated for innovative animal husbandry techniques, stressing the need for accurate livestock census and improved breeding practices.
The conclave featured two technical sessions that focused on investment and entrepreneurship opportunities in the livestock sector. Experts discussed the critical role of banks and MSMEs in facilitating credit and supporting growth. The collaborative efforts between government bodies, financial institutions, and entrepreneurs are essential for transforming the livestock sector and driving economic growth.
