EU’s Defense of the DSA
In response to the criticism, European officials have defended the DSA, asserting that it is not aimed at suppressing American companies. Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier clarified that the ruling is based on a democratic process and not on targeting specific companies or countries. The EU’s executive vice-president for tech sovereignty, Henna Virkkunen, reiterated the importance of user protection, stating that misleading practices and obfuscation of information have no place in the online environment. On the same day, EU regulators also resolved another case involving TikTok, which committed to improving transparency in its advertising practices.
