DRDO’s 67th Foundation Day: A Vision for the Future
On January 2, 2025, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh visited the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Headquarters in New Delhi to celebrate the 67th Foundation Day of the organization. Accompanied by Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth, he engaged with senior scientists and officials. Shri Rajnath Singh called for each DRDO lab to identify two to three critical projects to be completed by 2025. He expressed a goal of having 100 such projects finalized by the next Foundation Day. Strengthening Collaboration with the Private Sector

Moreover, he suggested that DRDO explore partnerships with start-ups to promote the exchange of ideas. By involving start-ups in research and development efforts, DRDO can tap into fresh perspectives and innovative solutions. Shri Rajnath Singh proposed that each lab organize two open days every month to facilitate interaction with industry representatives. This initiative aims to raise awareness about DRDO’s work and inspire the youth to contribute to national development.

Shri Rajnath Singh articulated a vision for DRDO to act as a catalyst for technological advancement in India. He suggested that the organization could lead initiatives that benefit not only the defense sector but also civilian applications. During the meeting, Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, briefed the Raksha Mantri on ongoing research and development activities. He shared that in 2024, DRDO had transferred technologies to Indian industries and signed numerous licensing agreements. The organization has also opened its test facilities to industries, conducting thousands of tests to support private sector development.

Shri Rajnath Singh recognized the design team behind the Long Range Hypersonic Anti-Ship Missile, highlighting the importance of innovation in defense technology.
