DRDO hosts Asian Fire Safety Meet in New Delhi

The 11th Asia Fire Protection Inspection Council (AFIC) Meet, organized by the Centre for Fire, Explosive and Environment Safety (CFEES) in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), has commenced in New Delhi on November 21, 2024. The AFIC serves as the Fire Protection organization for 11 Asian countries, facilitating technical exchange and the development of fire safety technologies and standards. This three-day meet, from November 21 to 23, 2024, has attracted the participation of 21 international delegates from six Asian countries.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, emphasized the significance of this event as a platform for delegates to exchange knowledge and collaborate on innovative solutions. Dr. Kamat expressed confidence that the AFIC Meet will contribute to DRDO’s vision of creating a self-reliant India with world-class fire safety technologies, thereby enhancing national security and global competitiveness.

In addition to the AFIC Meet, the CFEES is organizing an International Seminar on “Latest Trends in Fire Safety and Future Perspectives” and the Asian Fire Safety Expo (AFSE) 2024. Over 100 delegates from various organizations including state fire services, the Army, Navy, Air Force, BSF, DRDO, and CAPF are attending these events, which aim to further advancements in fire safety.

The AFSE 2024, held as a Focused Show at the India Industry Expo 2024, features the Republic of Korea as the Country Partner. This expo serves as a platform for key stakeholders in the fire safety technology industry to showcase advanced technologies and products for fire safety and protection in India.

CFEES has successfully brought together three events under one roof, uniting fire safety researchers, academicians, decision-makers, professionals, and industries on a common platform. This aligns with several objectives including promoting innovation, self-reliance, industry collaboration, technology transfer, domestic manufacturing, and strengthening national security.

Overall, the AFIC Meet, International Seminar, and AFSE 2024 provide valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and the promotion of fire safety technologies, ultimately contributing to the development and enhancement of fire safety standards in Asia and beyond.
