Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology Conducts Observations

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Ministry of Science & Technology has successfully conducted the Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 from May 1 to May 15 at its headquarters in New Delhi and across its Autonomous Institutions (AIs) and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). This initiative is part of the Government of Indiaโ€™s Swachh Bharat Mission, aimed at promoting cleanliness and civic responsibility. The event kicked off with a pledge-taking ceremony, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and discipline, and featured a variety of activities designed to engage participants and foster a culture of hygiene.

Kickoff Ceremony and Pledge

The Swachhata Pakhwada began on May 1, 2025, with a ceremonial pledge led by the Secretary of the DBT at the CGO Complex in New Delhi. This event saw active participation from department officials, who collectively reaffirmed their commitment to cleanliness and civic duty. The ceremony set a positive tone for the subsequent activities planned for the two-week period. Following the pledge, the DBT and its associated institutions organized a series of cleanliness drives, completing a total of 188 activities aimed at promoting hygiene and environmental awareness. The enthusiastic involvement of participants highlighted the importance of community engagement in such initiatives.

Activities and Community Engagement

Throughout the fortnight, a diverse range of activities took place, showcasing the commitment of the DBT to cleanliness and environmental sustainability. Health check-ups, Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training sessions were conducted, alongside talks focused on the dangers of single-use plastics and stress management. The department also organized cleanliness drives at local old age homes and the National Association for the Blind Centre in Delhi. Other initiatives included tree plantation drives, community runs promoting health and wellness, and nature walks. Additionally, cultural programs like Nukkad Natak were performed by students from the AIs to educate the community about cleanliness, while competitions such as painting and poster-making were held to encourage creativity and awareness among participants.

Monitoring and Recognition

The Swachhata Pakhwada was closely monitored by senior officials from the DBT, who conducted review meetings to motivate and guide participants throughout the event. A dedicated committee was formed to evaluate the performance of various offices involved in the initiative. This committee selected three offices that demonstrated exceptional commitment to the goals of the Pakhwada. The best-performing offices were recognized and awarded by the Joint Secretary (Admin) of the DBT, highlighting the importance of accountability and excellence in promoting cleanliness and civic responsibility.
