Defence Acquisition Council approves Acceptance of Necessity for three capital acquisition proposals
On January 10, 2023, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved three capital acquisition proposals worth Rs 4,276 crore under the chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh. There are three proposals – two from the Indian Army and one from the Indian Navy.
The DAC approved the AoN for the procurement of HELINA Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, launchers and related equipment that will be integrated into Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH). This missile is part of ALH’s weaponisation for countering enemy threats. Inducting it will strengthen the Indian Army’s offensive capability.
DAC also approved the procurement of the VSHORAD (IR Homing) missile system under design and development by DRDO. Recent developments along the Northern Borders make it a good idea to focus on portable and man-portable Air Defence (AD) weapon systems that can deploy quickly in rugged terrain. The acquisition of the VSHORAD will strengthen the Air Defence capabilities because it’s robust and quick to deploy.
DAC also approved the procurement of Brahmos Launcher and Fire Control System (FCS) for Shivalik class ships & Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMVs) for Indian Navy. Their induction would boost their ability to carry out maritime strike operations and interdict and destroy enemy warships and merchant ships.
