Data Users Conference to Present Latest Survey Results and Key Initiatives

The National Statistics Office (NSO) of India is set to host a Data Users Conference on April 21, 2025, in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) in Mumbai. This event aims to enhance communication between data producers and users, facilitating discussions on essential statistical methodologies and findings. Key topics will include the latest insights from the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey and updates on the Periodic Labour Force Survey, among others. The conference will gather around 250 participants, including policymakers, researchers, and representatives from various sectors.
Conference Objectives and Key Areas of Focus
The Data Users Conference is designed to promote a collaborative environment for dialogue between data producers and users. It will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange and discussions on the latest advancements in statistical methodologies. The conference will cover several critical areas, including sampling methodologies used in surveys, insights from the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES) for 2023-24, and recent changes in the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS). Additionally, discussions will focus on GDP compilation and base revision, as well as key initiatives related to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) base update. These topics are vital for understanding the current landscape of economic indicators in India.

The conference will be chaired by Dr. Saurabh Garg, IAS, Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. Notable speakers will include Dr. Neelkanth Mishra, Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, and Prof. Basanta Kumar Pradhan, Director of IGIDR. Other esteemed participants will include Ms. Geeta Singh Rathore, Director General of the National Sample Survey, and Shri N.K. Santoshi, Director General of Central Statistics. Approximately 250 attendees are expected, comprising researchers, economists, policymakers, and representatives from international organizations and academia, all of whom will contribute to the discussions.
