Dassault and Anil Ambani’s Joint Venture to Produce Falcon 2000 Business Jets

French aerospace giant Dassault Aviation has announced a significant partnership with Reliance Aerostructure, led by Anil Ambani, to manufacture Falcon 2000 business executive jets in India. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment for India’s aerospace industry, as the country prepares to join an exclusive group of nations capable of producing business jets, which currently includes the United States, France, Canada, and Brazil. The first Falcon 2000 jet, manufactured in India, is expected to be ready by 2028, with the final assembly line set to be established in Nagpur.

Strategic Partnership and Manufacturing Plans

The agreement between Dassault Aviation and Reliance Aerostructure was finalized during the ongoing Paris Air Show. This partnership will see the establishment of a final assembly line (FAL) in Nagpur, Maharashtra, where the Falcon 2000 jets will be produced for global markets. This initiative is particularly notable as it represents the first time Dassault will manufacture the Falcon 2000 outside of France. The collaboration aims to enhance India’s position in the global aerospace supply chain and contribute to the country’s growing reputation as a manufacturing hub.

Reliance Group’s founder, Anil D. Ambani, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that it aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India. He expressed confidence that the “Made in India” Falcon 2000 would symbolize the nation’s technological capabilities and manufacturing excellence. The collaboration is expected to create numerous job opportunities, with plans to recruit hundreds of engineers and technicians over the next decade to support the expanding operations.

Technological Advancements and Future Prospects

In addition to the Falcon 2000, Dassault Aviation plans to transfer assembly operations for the front sections of the Falcon 8X and Falcon 6X jets to Reliance Aerostructure. This transfer will include the wings and complete fuselage assembly of the Falcon 2000. The upgrades to the manufacturing facilities will facilitate the first flight of the Falcon 2000 from Indian soil by 2028. This move is seen as a significant step towards advancing India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities and establishing the country as a strategic center for high-end business jet production.

Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, highlighted the importance of this agreement, stating that it reinforces their commitment to the “Make in India” initiative. He noted that the establishment of Dassault Reliance Aerospace (DRAL) as the first center of excellence for Falcon assembly outside France is a testament to the company’s dedication to India’s aerospace sector. This partnership is expected to enhance India’s role in the global aerospace supply chain and contribute to the country’s technological advancements.

Impact on India’s Aerospace Ecosystem

The joint venture between Dassault Aviation and Reliance Aerostructure, established in 2017, has already made significant strides in the aerospace sector. Since the commencement of operations, DRAL has successfully assembled over 100 major sub-sections for the Falcon 2000. The establishment of the final assembly line in Nagpur is anticipated to further strengthen India’s aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.

This collaboration is not only a milestone for the companies involved but also for the Indian aerospace industry as a whole. The development of a state-of-the-art assembly line for the Falcon 2000 jets is expected to attract further investments and partnerships in the sector. The joint statement from Dassault Aviation and Reliance Aerostructure underscores their commitment to enhancing India’s capabilities in high-precision aviation production, positioning the country as a global center of excellence in aerospace manufacturing.
