Cyber Security Grand Challenge 2.0 Launched

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has officially launched the second edition of the Cyber Security Grand Challenge (CSGC 2.0). This initiative aims to enhance the cybersecurity landscape in India by encouraging innovation and developing solutions to pressing cybersecurity issues. The launch was announced by Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY. The challenge is being implemented by the Data Security Council of India (DSCI). With a significant increase in prize money and a focus on capability building, CSGC 2.0 promises to be a transformative initiative for the nation.

Increased Prize Money and Registration Details

One of the most notable aspects of CSGC 2.0 is the substantial increase in total prize money, which has risen to INR 6.85 crores from INR 3.2 crores in the first edition. This increase makes it one of the most attractive cybersecurity challenges in India. The challenge is now open for registrations, inviting innovators, startups, and budding entrepreneurs to participate. Interested participants can find all necessary information and register at the official website: Cyber Security Grand Challenge.

The initiative aims to strengthen the nation’s cybersecurity competencies and build capabilities in key areas. By providing a platform for innovation, CSGC 2.0 seeks to pave the way for a more secure digital future. The challenge will focus on six defined problem statement areas, including API Security, Data Security, and AI for Threat Detection, among others. This structured approach ensures that participants address current and relevant cybersecurity threats.

Intellectual Property Rights and Mentorship

A unique feature of CSGC 2.0 is the ownership of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for the products developed during the challenge. Each participating startup will retain ownership of their innovations, encouraging creativity and entrepreneurship. The challenge will unfold in various stages, with mentorship provided at each step. This mentorship will help participants refine their ideas and develop viable products.

Participants will be tasked with creating solutions around six specific problem statements. These areas include Wearable Device Security, Clone and Fake App Mitigation, and Securing Next-Generation Biometric Systems. By focusing on these critical areas, the challenge aims to foster innovative solutions that can effectively combat emerging cybersecurity threats.

Stages of the Challenge and Recognition

CSGC 2.0 features an expanded structure with multiple stages, including the newly introduced Go-to-Market stage. The challenge consists of four main stages: Idea, Minimum Viable Product (MVP), Final Product, and Go-to-Market. In the Idea Stage, six startups will be recognized for each problem statement, totaling 36 startups receiving INR 5 lakh each. At the MVP stage, 18 startups will receive INR 10 lakh each.

Throughout the challenge, participants will benefit from technical and business mentorship, helping them grow into successful ventures. At the Final Stage, winners for each of the six problem statements will be awarded INR 25 lakh each. The Go-to-Market stage will culminate in the announcement of the Platinum Winner, who will receive INR 1 crore, while the Gold and Silver Winners will receive INR 50 lakh and INR 25 lakh, respectively.

Shri S. Krishnan emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it aligns with the goals of Digital India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Viksit Bharat. The challenge aims to empower participants to create innovative security solutions that will enhance Indiaโ€™s digital journey.
