Central Government Provides Support to Maharashtra for Various Schemes and Initiatives

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized the importance of integrating advanced agricultural practices during a review meeting in Nagpur, Maharashtra. He highlighted the need for better coordination among improved seeds, organic fertilizers, and modern technology to support farmers effectively. The meeting, attended by key officials including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aimed to discuss various agricultural and rural development schemes and their implementation in the state.
Focus on Crop Development and Farmer Identification
During the meeting, Minister Chouhan directed the agriculture department to create crop varieties that are well-suited to the diverse weather conditions across India. He stressed the necessity of issuing a unique Farmer ID to each farmer, ensuring that future benefits from agricultural schemes are accessible only to those registered. This initiative aims to streamline the distribution of resources and support to farmers, enhancing their productivity and sustainability.
Chouhan also pointed out the need for developing more cotton varieties that can withstand climate change and varying rainfall patterns, particularly in Maharashtra. He called for the creation of high-yielding crop varieties that are suitable for low-rainfall areas. The minister proposed the development of a ‘Best Cropping Model’ tailored specifically for Maharashtra, which would serve as a guideline for farmers in the region.
Support for State Initiatives
The Union Minister assured that Maharashtra would receive comprehensive support from the central government for various agricultural schemes and initiatives in the near future. He acknowledged the efforts of the state government in implementing innovative agricultural practices and highlighted the importance of collaboration between state and central authorities.
Present at the meeting were several key figures, including State Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate and Rural Development Minister Jaykumar Gore. Principal Secretary of Agriculture Vikas Rastogi provided a detailed presentation on the state’s agricultural challenges, weather patterns, and plans for the upcoming Kharif season. This information is crucial for formulating effective strategies to address the needs of farmers in Maharashtra.
Recognizing Innovative Farmers
Minister Chouhan praised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his innovative initiatives in agriculture and rural development. He specifically commended the Chief Minister for the successful implementation of the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Rural) and various sandbank projects. Farmers like Raosaheb Mohite, Eknath Talekar, and Vandana Rathod were highlighted for their contributions to sericulture and orchid farming. Chouhan’s call to share these success stories aims to motivate other farmers and promote best practices throughout the country.
Review of Centrally Sponsored Schemes
The meeting included a comprehensive review of various centrally sponsored schemes under the Rural Development Department. Principal Secretary Eknath Dawale provided insights into initiatives such as the Prime Minister Awas Yojana, PM Janman Yojana, and the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana. The review also covered the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), with Chouhan commending the achievement of targets set under the program.
Chief Minister Fadnavis shared details about the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, which provides financial support to women, enabling them to start businesses and cover essential expenses. He announced the ambitious goal of creating one crore financially self-reliant women, known as “Lakhpati Didi’s,” through this initiative. This program aims to empower women and enhance their economic independence in Maharashtra.
