The selection process reflects India’s rich and diverse comic book culture. The championship aims to encourage creativity and innovation in storytelling and artwork. The event not only showcases individual talent but also promotes collaboration among creators, fostering a sense of community within the industry.
Overview of the Comic Creator Championship
The Comic Creator Championship consists of three phases, each designed to challenge participants in various aspects of comic creation. In the first phase, 100 participants will be selected to advance based on their initial submissions. They will then expand their stories by adding three to four more pages, further developing their characters, narrative, and artwork. This phase emphasizes the importance of storytelling and artistic skills, encouraging participants to reflect Indian themes and sensibilities in their work.
In the second phase, 25 finalists will be chosen to complete their stories with three to four final pages. They will refine their artwork to create a polished and engaging comic. By the end of the competition, each finalist will have produced a coherent 8-10 page comic, which may or may not include a cover page. This structured approach ensures that participants can craft compelling narratives while adhering to the competition’s guidelines.
Themes and Eligibility Guidelines
Participants in the Comic Creator Championship must choose from a variety of themes that reflect contemporary Indian culture and society. The themes include “Horror Comedy,” “Era of Gen-Z India,” “India in Space,” “Folktales Reimagined,” “Sport Legends,” “Science Fiction,” “Indian Tourism,” and “Indian Armed Forces.” Each theme offers a unique opportunity for creators to explore different genres and styles, encouraging them to push the boundaries of their creativity.
The championship is open to both amateur and professional participants, with no age restrictions. Amateurs are defined as individuals who have never published a comic, while professionals have at least one published work. The competition emphasizes originality and creativity, and AI-generated artwork will not be accepted. This ensures that the championship celebrates authentic artistic expression and encourages participants to showcase their unique visions.
