Celebrating Diversity at Divya Kala Mela
The Divya Kala Mela, a vibrant celebration of art and culture, concluded with a grand ceremony at Akota Stadium in Vadodara. The event took place in the esteemed presence of Shri Ramdas Athawale, the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment. The ceremony began with a captivating dance performance dedicated to Lord Ganesha, setting a festive tone for the occasion. This event not only showcased the talents of Divyang artisans but also highlighted the government’s commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities.
A Commitment to Empowerment
During the closing ceremony, Shri Athawale emphasized the importance of supporting Divyangjans, individuals with disabilities, in building an Atmanirbhar Bharat, or self-reliant India. He reiterated the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that by 2047, when India celebrates its centenary of independence, Divyangjans will serve as an inspiration to the world. The minister highlighted various initiatives launched under Modi’s leadership aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, skill development, and financial assistance for Divyangjans.
Shri Navin Shah, CMD of the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC), also spoke at the event. He noted that this was the 23rd fair, providing a significant platform for the economic empowerment of Divyangjan products. The fair aimed to enhance visibility and market access for these artisans, allowing them to showcase their unique skills and craftsmanship.
A Platform for Artisans
The 11-day fair, held from January 9 to January 19, 2025, provided a unique opportunity for over 100 Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs from 20 states and union territories to display their work. This event was not just about showcasing products; it was about creating a supportive environment for artisans to thrive.
In addition to showcasing their crafts, the fair also facilitated financial support for local artisans. During the event, 30 Divyangjans from Gujarat received loan sanction letters totaling Rs. 1 crore. Furthermore, motorized tricycles were distributed to 11 individuals through IRCONโs CSR fund, and assistive devices were provided to 14 others by ALIMCO. A Job Fair was also organized on January 17, where 18 Divyangjans received appointment letters, marking a significant step towards their professional empowerment.
Cultural Showcase and Local Products
The Divya Kala Mela also featured a cultural program titled โDivya Kala Shakti,โ which showcased the talents of 78 Divyang artists from 15 states. The program included 36 captivating performances, beginning with a group dance on the song โJay Jay Garvi Gujarat.โ Notable performances included a mesmerizing dance by Swati from Jammu & Kashmir and a classical dance by Sanyotani Samadar from Odisha. The finale featured a patriotic performance by artists from the Blind Peopleโs Association in Ahmedabad.
In addition to the performances, artisans from various regions, including Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, and the North-Eastern states, displayed their exceptional products. These included handicrafts, handlooms, embroidery, and packaged food, promoting the โVocal for Localโ initiative. The event was further enriched by diverse food stalls, enhancing the overall experience for attendees.
The Divya Kala Mela not only celebrated the artistic talents of Divyangjans but also served as a reminder of the importance of inclusivity and empowerment in society. The event successfully brought together art, culture, and community support, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.
