As directed by the Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) started inspecting drug manufacturing units together with the State Drugs Control Administration under a risk-based approach.

According to the Standard Operating Procedures, Joint Inspections are being conducted all over the country. CDSCO (HQ) has formed a committee of two Joint Drugs Controllers to oversee inspections, reports, and follow-up action so as to ensure compliance with the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, of 1940. It will ensure that drugs made in the country meet high-quality standards.

Prior to carrying out inspections, an action plan was made for national inspections of manufacturing units deemed at risk of manufacturing Not of Standard Quality (NSQ)/adulterated/spurious drugs.

The objective of drug regulation is to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of the drugs available in the country. Manufacturing units are supposed to follow the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, of 1940, and the Rules thereunder, especially when it comes to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
