CAQM Sub-Committee Revokes Stage-I of the Current GRAP Schedule

Today, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has registered a reading of 140, indicating a ‘Moderate’ level of air quality, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This improvement has prompted the Sub-Committee on the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to convene and review the air quality situation in the National Capital Region (NCR). Following their assessment, the committee has decided to revoke Stage-I of the GRAP, effective immediately, while emphasizing the need for continued vigilance to maintain air quality standards.

Improvement in Air Quality

The recent AQI reading of 140 marks a significant improvement in Delhi’s air quality, attributed to favorable meteorological conditions. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) have forecasted that the AQI will likely remain in the ‘Moderate’ category in the coming days. This positive trend has led the CAQM Sub-Committee to unanimously decide to lift Stage-I of the GRAP, which had been in effect since June 7, 2025. The committee’s decision reflects a cautious optimism regarding the air quality in the region.

Call for Compliance and Vigilance

Despite the encouraging AQI readings, the CAQM has urged all relevant state government agencies and the Delhi government to adhere strictly to the guidelines and directives issued by the commission. This includes implementing regulations from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the CPCB. The goal is to sustain the current air quality levels and prevent any deterioration into the ‘Poor’ category. Agencies are expected to take proactive measures, particularly in dust mitigation, to ensure that air quality remains stable.

Monitoring and Future Actions

The Sub-Committee will continue to monitor the air quality closely and will reassess the situation periodically. Future decisions will be based on real-time air quality data and forecasts provided by the IMD and IITM. The committee’s ongoing vigilance is crucial to ensure that the improvements in air quality are not only maintained but also built upon in the long term. The comprehensive policy established by the CAQM aims to address air pollution effectively, and all stakeholders are expected to contribute to these efforts actively.
