Cabinet Approves Rs. 1413 Crore Development of New Civil Enclave at Bihta, Patna
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) ambitious plan to develop a New Civil Enclave at Bihta, Patna. This major infrastructure project, with an estimated cost of Rs. 1413 crore, is a strategic response to the growing demand for air travel and the anticipated capacity saturation at Patna’s existing airport.
Patna Airport, currently undergoing expansion with the construction of a new terminal building, faces constraints due to limited land availability. The development of the Bihta Civil Enclave is a crucial step to alleviate these limitations and ensure that the region’s aviation needs are met in the coming years.
The New Integrated Terminal Building at Bihta Airport is designed to cover a sprawling area of 66,000 square meters, with the capacity to handle 3,000 Peak Hour Passengers (PHP) and an annual throughput of 50 lakh passengers. The design includes provisions for future expansion, with the potential to double this capacity to accommodate up to one crore passengers annually.
Key features of the project include the construction of an Apron with 10 parking bays, suitable for aircraft types such as A-321, B-737-800, and A-320, along with two link taxiways. These enhancements are expected to significantly boost the region’s connectivity and support Bihar’s economic growth by facilitating greater movement of people and goods.
The project is part of the Modi government’s broader strategy to enhance infrastructure across the country, with a particular focus on improving air connectivity in underserved regions. As Bihar continues to emerge as a key hub for economic activity, the new Bihta Civil Enclave will play a pivotal role in supporting the state’s development ambitions.
