Boosting Adventure Tourism: New Initiatives Unveiled
The Indian Ministry of Tourism has announced a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing adventure tourism across the country. Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, revealed these developments in a recent Lok Sabha session. The initiatives include financial assistance for infrastructure projects and a comprehensive strategy to promote safety and skill development in adventure tourism.
Government Initiatives for Tourism Development
The Ministry of Tourism is actively collaborating with State Governments and Union Territory (UT) Administrations to develop and promote various tourism products, including adventure tourism. This collaboration is supported by several central sector schemes, such as Swadesh Darshan, Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD), and Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development. These schemes provide financial assistance to states for enhancing tourism infrastructure, thereby boosting local economies and attracting more visitors.
The Swadesh Darshan Scheme, in particular, focuses on developing specific tourism circuits, including coastal and cruise tourism. The Ministry has sanctioned numerous projects under this scheme, which are detailed in official annexures. For instance, the development of the Coastal Circuit in Andhra Pradesh and the Cruise Terminal at Mormugao Port in Goa are among the notable projects aimed at improving tourism infrastructure.
